Italian Soccer Club Denies That 17-Year-Old Player is Actually 41

News

Minala

Società Sportiva Lazio, an Italian soccer club, had to officially release a statement that their 17-year-old player Joseph Minala is NOT, in fact, 41-years-old:

“I have read the alleged statements posted on the website senego.net in which it says I confessed my real age which was different to what was stated in my [official] documents.”

“They are false statements that have been attributed to me by people who do not know.”

Lazio has since threatened legal action against the offending website, and Italian journalist Max Evangelista has defended Minala from critics, saying the player has been more quickly aged by a tough life.

And while it sounds impossible to mistake a 17-year-old for a 41-year-old, it is striking how I can imagine him being either age:

All this should go without saying, but...

1.)  He clearly has a teenager's body, and that's much more relevant than how his face looks.

2.) Mildly acne-marked skin doesn't show its characteristic redness on black pigmented skin, and so at a casual glance the skin might look like its aged instead.  Look more objectively at that photo above:  there are no crows-feet at his eyes, his forehead is barely wrinkled, and he doesn't have a middle-aged man's smile or frown lines.  The skin looks a bit rough aside from that, but it's just his acne.

Why? Because he has a broad face? Look at his skin, it's not wrinkled.

@PackersFanNumeroUno  Drastically more of the population of the planet cares about real 'football' than American 'football'.

I love American football, huge fan, play fantasy every year... but facts are facts, and this common sort of anti-soccer sentiment like yours by an American only serves to demonstrate how worldly ignorant you are (and thus, you embarrass those of us Americans who aren't).

@PackersFanNumeroUno  Soccer has a strong fanbase in the US and a huge following in the rest of the world. Just because you dont like it doesn't mean its stupid.
