Dogs on the SI Cover

The 138th annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show is underway and the Australian shepherd of Rays pitcher Ryan Hanigan has already captured an award. SI has been covering the show forever (seriously, here’s 1,100 words on Shirkhan of Grandeur’s victory in 1957) and used to regularly feature dogs on the cover. I’ve included some of my favorites in the gallery above.

NFL Offseason Twitter Report

The Panthers, Falcons and Bucs had a Twitter battle. I give the win to Carolina.

Feel-Good Story of the Day

The Boston Celtics are finalizing plans for 12-year-old New Zealander Louis Corbett to attend a game in early March. Corbett is battling a severe case of Retinitis Pigmentosa, a disease that causes blindness. Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and wife Corinne have a son who is blind and they sprang into action upon hearing about Louis on Twitter.

Lovely Lady Round-Up

AskMen has released its annual countdown of the 99 most desirable women. Mila Kunis, whom I’ve never featured in Hot Clicks, came in at No. 26 … Alexandra Victoria is the Bikini Team Model of the Month …  These models got in the Olympic spirit by wearing lingerie and flags.

Gold Medal For Molson

The Canadian brewery placed a beer fridge inside Team Canada’s Olympic House that opens only if someone scans a Canadian passport inside a slot. Genius.

Down Goes Tyson

Today marks the 24th anniversary of Buster Douglas‘ knockout of Mike Tyson in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. SI’s Richard Hoffer aptly describes the scene in his Feb. 19, 1990 cover story:

“So it was that on Sunday, at Tokyo’s Korakuen Stadium, Mike Tyson, the undisputed, undefeated heavyweight champion of the world, provided real theater. Against a fighter whose principal qualification as a contender was his availability and pay scale, Tyson quickly found himself in trouble, was struck at will with right hands and had his left eye closed after nine rounds. Even with that, it was impossible to conceive what would happen at 1:23 of the 10th round. James (Buster) Douglas, so secure in boxing anonymity that he could not draw the attention of a single photographer as he waited for the weigh-in the day before, lifted Tyson upright with a right uppercut, hit the suddenly defenseless champion with two more punches and then floored the reeling Tyson, already more horizontal than perpendicular, with a chopping left hook.

Tyson, who had never before been knocked down in his professional career, skidded on his backside. As referee Octavio Meyran Sánchez began the 10 count, Tyson flipped himself over and began sweeping the canvas with his right arm. A boxer’s reflex is a strange and revealing thing. Finally, Tyson found his mouthpiece, started to insert it backward into his mouth and then desperately climbed to his feet and into Meyran’s protective embrace, his good eye fogged in a way you cannot imagine.”

NFL Candy Mock Draft

This was much more entertaining that I expected.

Agreed. enough to make me log in and comment, which I rarely do. Hot Clicks has gone rapidly downhill since Andy took over. I am not compelled to check it out every day as I once was. Lots of internal links to SI Swimsuit models (we already know where to see those, and have already seen them). LLOD selections are mostly terrible. Links are not interesting. He needs to recognize that his target audience is not the 12-20 age group, and we are also not a bunch of pedophiles. Hell, just let the staff from the old days run it - they know better what Hot Clicks readers are interested in. I have given him more than enough time to find his groove. If this is it, it will be without my patronage. looking elsewhere for reading material.

As of late he's also had an odd fascination with dogs. I don't come here for images of dogs, vault photos, worthless links and as one commenter said last week "skelator-type LLOD's." He gave it a good effort, now it's time to move on.

Andy Gray is coming off quite creepy with his obsession with teenage girls. He has post about Mean girls a couple times now along with posting teenage pictures of Alyssa Milano, Winnie Cooper and others.
