Mets Win? See the New York Daily News’ Unused 2006 NLCS Back Page

Media

Mets fans everywhere recall Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS with sadness, but ESPN New York‘s Adam Rubin has given them a glimpse into an alternate world where Endy Chavez’s amazing catch was enough to send the Mets to the World Series.

Unfortunately for Mets fans, Yadier Molina’s 2-run homer in the 8th inning coupled with Adam Wainwright’s physics-defying curveball ended New York’s championship hopes, and started years of blaming Carlos Beltran.

"… I still have the Daily News proof of back page that never ran. (This is real.)"

INCORRECT: This is not real. And was never going to be the back page at any time. This was done in the office by me as a what might have been a day or two later. I was at Game 7 and not in the office that night.

Beltran stared at strike three with two runners on.  You can blame Cliff Floyd and Aaron Heilman as well, but Beltran was paid $150 million to swing at the ball.
