Babe Ruth: A Photo Tribute
Babe Ruth was born on this day in 1895. Despite playing well before television, the internet or Twitter, Ruth remains one of the most popular athletes of all time (he even has 4,000 Twitter followers). In fact, the baseball he famously signed before hitting three home runs for a sick child went up for auction today and bidding is already past the $50,000 mark. In honor of Ruth, I collected some of his most memorable photos into the gallery above.
Michigan’s Nik Stauskas is dating Tay Anderson, who shot past Lindsey Duke as the best-looking NCAA girlfriend (in my opinion). CelebSlam, meanwhile, has a huge gallery of Anne V in a bikini. The nine-time SI Swimsuit model is single after breaking up with Mets pitcher Matt Harvey.
Porn vs Power Ranger
It’s been two weeks since C.M. Punk left the WWE and he already has a couple intriguing career options. Jason David Frank, the original Green Ranger on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has challenged Punk to a MMA fight. Punk has yet to respond. Perhaps he’s contemplating whether to take up Brazzers.com on their offer to make a porn, which would be scored by Minor Threat.

Ten Years Ago
Ten years ago this week, the free-spending Angels were the talk of baseball, as SI’s Phil Taylor writes:
First, [Artie] Moreno, 57, authorized the signings of two front-of-the-rotation free-agent starters — righthanders Bartolo Colon (four years, $51 million) and Kelvim Escobar (three years, $18.75 million) — and then green-lighted the signing of a big bat, out-fielder Jose Guillen (two years, $6 million). But that was all a warm-up to his headline move — the Jan. 12 signing of free-agent outfielder Vladimir Guerrero for $70 million over five years. (Two days later the Angels added third baseman Shane Halter for one year at $575,000.) “I wouldn’t put us in the Yankees’ category,” closer Troy Percival says of the spending spree. “But you know that other owners and G.M.’s must be looking at what we’ve done and are saying, ‘Whoa, a high roller just sat down at the table.’ “
Guerrero would go on to win the MVP that season but the Angels were swept by the Red Sox in the ALDS. They’d advance to the ALCS the next season but are still looking for their first World Series since 2002.
