Seventh Grade YouTube Sensation Commits to College Hockey Team

News

Oliver Wahlstrom, a 13-year-old seventh grader, has committed to play hockey at the University of Maine when he’s old enough in 2019. While that sounds absurd on face, Wahlstrom plays at a high school varsity level already, and he’s only the youngest NCAA hockey commit by a year.

You probably don’t recognize the name Oliver Wahlstrom, but there’s a decent chance you saw his work as a 9-year-old at the Boston Bruins mini one-on-one camp, in which he scored a lacrosse-style shootout goal (above) that went viral.

I always wonder what happens to these child prodigies, and it appears, so far, Wahlstrom’s path is more Tiger Woods than Danny Almonte.

The saddest part of this is that this is the only article on this site that mentions college and hockey at the same time. You can check cricket scores on SI, but NCAA hockey? nope.

He mastered a "gimmick" move and that makes him a prodigy? No mention of his stats or actual footage of him playing against other live humans? What a brutal article.

"I always wonder what happens to this child prodigies,...."

I wonder if these guys moonlight over at Yahoo. The standards seem to be about the same.

"... and he’s only the oldest NCAA hockey commit by a year."

Perhaps you mean he is the 'youngest' by a year.

@Rickapolis I see similar mistakes on this site everyday. It really sets an atrocious journalistic standard.
