Vegas Cabbie Gives $300K Back to Poker Player after Finding the Cash in His Backseat
A thus-far-unidentified 28-year-old professional poker player almost had a monumentally terrible beat in Las Vegas on Monday when he took a cab from the Cosmopolitan to the Palms and left a $5 tip and $300,000 more in the backseat. (Don’t you just hate when that happens?)
Luckily, his stacks of cash had been forgotten in an honest cab. Upon realizing that the brown paper bag in his backseat contained six fat stacks – as opposed to some chocolate, which was initially suspected — the driver, Gerardo Gamboa, notified his dispatcher and the money was returned to its rightful owner after a four-hour police investigation.
For being a good samaritan, Gamboa received a $1,000 reward, driver of the year honors, and a steak dinner for two from his taxi company. Obviously these rewards pale in comparison to both the warm feeling that comes from doing the right thing…and $300,000.
