Meet Kentucky women’s soccer coach Jon Lipsitz: Resident Twitter marksman who will find and humiliate you if you denigrate the game of soccer. Today, he engaged in a Twitter spree directed at UNC head coach Roy Williams that excoriated the Tar Heel boss for his comment about his team after losing to Texas on Wednesday night:

“I’m tired of talking about free throws … You have to step up and make the doggone thing or go play soccer.”

Lipsitz, a UNC alum, didn’t take kindly to the statement:

Williams is somewhat established in the sports world, but Dorrance, North Carolina’s women’s soccer coach, has won 22 national titles. Roy’s got a long way to go until then. When the trolls emerged to either defend Williams or further make fun of soccer, Lipsitz continued to spit fire:

This isn’t the first showcase of Williams’ arrogance and insensitivity. This is the man who compared losing to Virginia to the Haitian earthquake, had an opposing fan kicked out of a game for yelling during a free throw, and made five of his own players survive a court-storming while he and the rest of the team were safely in the locker room.

Lipsitz even put on a nice finishing touch:

Jon Lispitz, everybody: Delightfully reminding us that Roy Williams is still sullen.

What is wrong with this guy?  There is nothing offensive about William's comment.   Not really unexpected though.  My quick glance shows that Lipsitz takes pride in his tweet after tweet after tweet.   Would he like someone to over-parse all of those?   I was a coach; and a player (playing at a higher level than Lipsitz, it appears), and I did not find anything even noticeable in William's statement.  Try this Jon: "If my players don't have the discipline to keep there hands away from the ball, then maybe they should try something like basketball."  A slam at basketball?  Really?  Geeeez.

I thought William's comment was just referring to the fact that if you can't make free throws (which involves eye-hand coordination) then go play soccer (a sport that doesn't require the use of your hands).

I'm still trying to figure out how Williams' comment was demeaning to either the sport of soccer or its players...

Really? THAT'S what the writer wants us to take away from this whole thing? Not that Lipsitz is a giant dooshnugget?
