Brazil’s U-17 Soccer Team Quits by Just Standing There in Match against U.S.

News, Video

Brazil’s under-17 soccer team was unhappy with their performance during their 4-1 loss to the US, and even less happy with the ref sending a second Brazilian player off with a red card, so they just stopped playing.

With 5 minutes remaining in the Nike International Friendlies match in Florida last weekend, the Brazilian players just stood at midfield with their hands on their hips. The American team responded in kind, by simply holding on to the ball and waiting for time to run out.

As an American, I will admit I am not super familiar with the customs of international youth soccer, but this seems like kind of a jerk move by Brazil.

USA is fielding better and better players and honest to goodness competitive soccer players. It started with Pele in NY Cosmos. Brazil's soccer mafia has ruined the "Dente de Leite" (Under 12 year olds)club programs with excessive salaries for their "star players" and club advertising budgets. This has led to a constant decline in both quality and quantity of honest, able players like Vava, Gerson, Garrincha, Zico, Socrates and yes, Pele from Santos. Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense and even Corinthians are all small time money laundering, illegal reduxes of graft and corruption. Even drug money and hoodlums are now players and administrators of once great, clubs in all of Brazil. Gremio and Internacional are victims of this disgrace...as is Atletico Mineiro. Sad, Brazils "star' is destined for the trach heap of ignominy. And I'm a Rubronegro (Flamengo, Carioca, doente)! Sad spectacle for all Brazilian's! America won, fair and square. Brazil lost and shows the failure of corruption, drug cartels and money laundering...just like in Colombia's soccer team. Yea, USA! Go for ti.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if this situation was reversed?

They should've run the score up to 100-1

I know it's 17-under but grow the hell up Brazil. Frankly, now I wish the US had knocked one in.

Clear lack of sportsmanship on the part of the Brazil squad. You don't throw a tantrum and quit just because you aren't getting your way. The Americans - who were showing proper class - clearly would have done what any other self-respecting national team squad would have done when up 4-1 with just a few minutes left and not attempted to score another goal even if Brazil had not quit.

@thebigdawg3 bro. chill man.. There are some hot Brazilians out there and Brazil happens to play amazing soccer. This was only their youth... Yes, this was a bad move, but let's get over it. It's no reason for you to discriminate. First off, you shouldn't even be commenting if you don't even know that the U.S has some latinos in the squad, like @ivanmartinez199822 said. So pleeeese, Don't even go there.
