Vote on the Rebranded Logo You Most Wish Daniel Snyder Had the Humilty to Adopt

As we told you about on Tuesday, the web site 99 Designs ran a contest for graphic designers to create the new logo for the theoretically-rebranded Redskins. Perhaps in direct response to this, but more likely in response to the generally widespread call for the Redskins to change their objectively racist and derogatory name, team owner Daniel Snyder penned an open letter that included the defiance, tone-deafness, and circuitous logic that anybody who’s been paying attention could have mad lib’d at this point.

Nevertheless, 99 Designs pushed on with their contest. They ultimately received over 1,900 entries. With the help of the journalists – Washington Post reporter Robert McCartney, and SB Nation’s Ken Meringolo and Kevin Ewold — who devised the new names for the competition, they’ve pared the submissions down to these final eight and are giving you the chance to vote for which you like best (though not necessarily on the winner):

If you're white and filled with that much guilt; here's what you should do:  pay off your mortgage and then give your home to a needy Native American family.  This way, you are actually doing something helpful for Native Americans rather than just getting sanctimonious and self-righteous with Snyder.  The beauty of this is that you are actually giving land back which your ancestors took. The real bonus of this is that you can now move back to Europe and we don't have to hear from you anymore.

Why not the Washington Whites?  If Indians don't want to be associated with the team, I know a whole lot of White people that would love to name the team after them.  It makes sense historically, too, since all the framers were White.

Had the humility to adopt?  Could you please sound just a little more smug and self-righteous, Glasspiegel?

My vote would go to the "Washington Renegades."

Not because it's a particularly inventive name, but rather the idea of a team kowtowing to the tidal wave of PC hand-wringers and adopting the name "Renegades" would be the greatest of all sports ironies.

What a load of garbage. They all look bad.. like Arena Football stuff. People whining about this need to find something to do. How have we become such a nation of crybabies and whiners. It's embarrassing.

I always thought, keep the colors, change it to Palefaces, put ol' George (Washington) on the logo.  Everyone loves George.  And it has a nice circular logic to it while honoring the founding fathers and all those that slaughtered the natives for greed and fear.

Aside from this, I DEMAND that Cracker Barrel change their name.  Kidding of course.  Leave the team name as it is.

He could propose calling it the "congressmen", and everyone would be begging him to keep "redskins".

So does this mean FSU and Clevland and other teams with those names have to change as well? This is just stupid and for Barack to get involved is even more stupid.  Someone in DC must be getting something out of this or it wouldn't be an issue....please!

I suggest the Washington Furloughs and this way Mr Snyder can save money and not pay anyone!

Griffins and Red Tails are out. Neither have any connection to DC nor are they an attractive icon (Griffin) or pertinent geographically (Red Tails). Warriors is nice as it's both pertinent to DC and provides plenty of design options.

Does a Red Tail Cessna strike fear in anyone's mind?

It's a merchandizing bonanza for the Washington team if they get a new name and new logo

If they do change their name, I'd suggest the Washington Red Crabs!

None of the above. I hope the Redskins keep their name!

Nobody what name it has, it will always offend someone.  If the general Native American population and their tribes do not mind or do not care, then do not bother to change it.  This is a perfect case of P/C.  The only name change I think I will support is change it from Redskins to Redmen..

Alright, I'll bite.  "(G)enerally widespread call?"  Cite your sources (polls?), Ryan.  Bob, Ken & Kev don't qualify as "widespread."

"(O)bjectively racist and derogatory (Redskins)?"  Make your case.

And I thought "Warriors" was out (Marquette, fka)?  Don't bully the readers, Ryan, that's 'High-school Harry' stuff.

@YogKothag Removing a racist term has nothing to do with being PC, it has to do with being mature and realizing you're wrong.

@mjw149 "And it has a nice circular logic to it while honoring the founding fathers and all those that slaughtered the natives for greed and fear."

Absolutely, because apparently honoring the Native American ancestry the organization has is insensitive? I hate how we as a nation have become so caught up in trying to psychologically protect everyone against every little thing. I mean I was told I could not ask people in a survey if they were pregnant because it might cause emotional distress... really? It is getting ridiculous.

You have a point with Cleveland, but FSU is actually publicly supported by and supports the Seminole Nation. In fact, the Seminole Nation went before the NCAA committee established to rid the country of offensive college names and told them that the Nation wanted the school to keep proudly using the Seminole name. That's why you never hear many people say anything about FSU. If you openly have the backing you can use it. (Of course, the school supports the Seminole Nation in many ways as well - as they should. Symbiotic relationships can work in this world if they are allowed to thrive.)
