The Pouncey Twins’ Going-Out Attire Last Night Included “Free Hernandez” Hats

Dolphins center Mike Pouncey and Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, reportedly out celebrating their shared birthday last night, seized the opportunity to protest the (they must somehow believe?) unjust incarceration of their former Florida teammate, suspected murderer Aaron Hernandez. It’s a puzzling fashion choice for the Pouncey bros, who were supposedly out with Hernandez in Gainesville the night in 2007 where a shooting occurred for which he and other former Gator Reggie Nelson were questioned by police.

Also puzzling: Why anyone, based on everything that’s come out the past few weeks, would still be friends with Hernandez.

Update: The Steelers plan to speak to Maurkice Pouncey about the situation; Mike Pouncey will presumably be hearing from the Dolphins about it as well.

Update II: Maurkice Pouncey has issued an apology. “I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate,” Pouncey wrote on Twitter. “and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions.”

Lucky these brothers didn't play at Penn St, or they would be wearing "Free Sandusky" hats.

Way too many thugs playing this game now. I'm about this far (pinches fingers together) to turning off my cable.

The dumb-dumbs misspelled "Zimmerman'...

To complete the picture, the guy in the center needs an "I'm with Stupid" shirt with 2 arrows....

Why isn't the whole national media up in arms about the killing of this young black person by a hispanic? Will there be marches in the streets is another acquittal takes place?

Seriously now....I left espn because of the trash, and we get these Mensa comments below? Open your recent hard copy of S.I., look for the McD's ad with the Pouncey bros., and read on the stuff they do for their hometown, notice that BOTH their track records are impeccable (so far), and keep on finding ways to twist a "birthday" photo, taken with friends into what most of you have spewed as senseless vitriol. Good lawwwwd...lol....

Birds of a feather. The Pouncey's obviously identify with fellow murderers more than with real human beings. Maurkice snaps the ball to a rapist, so this is just further proof that the NFL is infested with future prisoners.

How dumb are these guys?  Stare into their eyes.

Fine them, suspend them, or just get their sorry asses away from any cameras.

Boys, he's a double, perhaps triple murderer.  So what exactly is your point?

No snitches?

Thought so.

I'm glad people are finally starting to see the NFL for what it is. A collection of thugs and murderers

They wanted attention and got it. Plus Hernandez hasn't been convicted yet

Steeler fan here, and have to say I am less than thrilled with Markice's decision here.  It makes the organization look bad and it makes him and his brother look stupid.

"BOTH are on their way to a ton of All-pro careers." Hernandez was on his way to a All Pro career as well.

Another reason to hate the a-hole Stealers and to laugh at the sad-sap Dolphins.

I'm sure they're the ONLY people ever to irrationally support someone they consider a friend... Still, not wise. Loyal, for whatever that's worth, but not at all wise.

I thought o-lineman were generally smarter than this.

I would love to hear their rationalization.  PLease someone get them on TV to explain their ridiculous thought process .

NFL players aren't know for having common sense.

I think this shows VERY poor judgement. Annabel is right, of course, Hernandez is innocent until proven guilty, and the Pouncey's are entitled to both their opinion and the right to express it. But doing so at a bar looking drunk and stupid is not the way to do it. What the hell were they thinking?

Oh those classy gators

The media thinks they have all the facts and their verdict is in.  Why wait for a trial?  Steelers will talk to Mo and remind him that AH is guilty until proved innocent and Mo needs to toe the company/media line.

Y'all are fools...they prolly had some cat at the kiosk in the mall make those hats just to get some press. BOTH are on their way to a ton of All-pro careers...leave em alone....they're celebrating their birthday.....

Combined these two knuckle heads have the IQ of a nit.  Hope the NFL decides to question them and sure as hell hope Miami dumps the creep.

As long as the bad kill the bad, I don't have a problem with that.

@Annabel So I guess we just listen to the dumb-dumb twins and free a suspected hit man until he's 'proven guilty'. Yeah, right...

@Annabel They may not have all the facts, but the facts they do have are pretty damning:  him on camera walking into his house with a gun a little after the murder, him destroying his cell phone and home surveillance system, having unlicensed guns and ammo that fit the caliber used in the killing.  He may or may not be a killer, but he is certainly not innocent.
