The Lineup: Tuesday, July 9
Searching for the right word; A bike riding B-A; Bowling's renegade
Please return your seats and tray-tables to their prostrate positions. (All times Eastern)
Soccer Gold Cup Group Stage: USA vs. Belize, 11:00p.m. (Fox Soccer)
Not to be a pessimist, but the Gold Cup is probably the biggest title the US has a real shot of winning in the four-year World Cup cycle. Every game in this tournament so far has been highly entertaining, especially last night’s El Salvador vs. Trinidad & Tobago tilt.
TV ESPN Films Nine for XI: Pat XO, 8p.m. (ESPN)
The second installment of the female-centric documentary series focuses on Pat Summitt, the winningest coach in college basketball history. It will chronicle her life, from her early struggles all the way to the top point, when she reached highest level … Dammit, what’s the word for that?
Cycling Tour De France: Stage 9, 8:00a.m. (NBC Sports & NBC Sports Live Extra)
Mark Cavendish of team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is a baller. Watch him draft inches behind the support car and later bunny hop this roundabout at 30 miles per hour. (GIF from the fantastic tour recaps from Cyclocosm.)
Olympic Sports World University Games: Men’s Beach Volleyball, USA vs. Russia, 3:00p.m. (ESPNU & ESPN3)
This match triggers the double-homer in me. Tri Bourne and William Montgomery not only represent my country, but Montgomery went to high school in my hometown of Santa Barbara, CA. Santa Barbara: Not just for blackout drunk university students with trust funds.
Bowling GEICO Summer King of the Swing, 7:00p.m (CBS Sports Network)
This event is sponsored by Lucas Oil, a perfect association for a sport that requires a slick surface on the field of play. It also features Aussie bowler Jason Belmonte and his two-handed heave, which is the belly putter of bowling.
TV Naked and Afraid, 10:00p.m. (Discovery)
There wasn’t enough room in the weekend Lineup for this show, but it’s definitely worth catching the re-air. A former Marine and a pro surfer are stranded with literally nothing in the jungle where this happened (Warning: SUPER GROSS). Coincidentally, “Naked and Afraid” has also been selected as the theme for Sports Illustrated‘s Labor Day picnic.
