Hey, ESPN: No One Cares About Tennis, Now Put On First Take

ESPN’s admirably robust live coverage of the French Open has kicked off every day this week at 5 a.m. ET on ESPN2.

First Take, the network’s well-regarded two-hour weekday morning debate program, starts every morning at 10 a.m. on the same channel. The tennis, live sports being what they are, has on occasion bled into the talk show’s timeslot.

Imagine the horror of the First Take‘s devoted (and punctual) fans when they sat down for breakfast this week only to see the ghastly terre battue of Roland Garros and not the pure ideological arena of Bristol, Conn.

Actually, your imagination isn’t necessary. The backlash on Twitter wouldn’t have been more choleric if Rafael Nadal himself had been force-feeding geese for fois gras on camera.

Of course, not everyone kneels at the altar of Steven A. and Skip …

But really: Shut up, Erik.

I can understand showing a major although it bugs the piss out of me that there are no other tennis matches shown.  I am glad it is part of my cable package because if it were a premium, you'd be gone.

These people obviously want some HOT SPROTS TAKES instead of actual sports.

Can we just track down these imbeciles on Twitter and sterilize them?

agreed @MarcNichol ; plus honestly people don't really need to criticise the sport (as seen in the above tweet samples) to make a point. I would get pissed off as well if tennis was cut (which in my country, happens A LOT), but never would I hate on the show interrupting it (at least to some degree).

Plus, the French Open lasts for only two weeks, so I really don't get any of the fans being angry over it "taking over" First Take's time slot.

And yes, I would actually want ESPN to cover the whole day in Paris too; but I won't hate First Take (which sounds like a great show by the way) to make THAT point.

god, i know civilization is coming to an end soon, this confirms it....my take, actual live competition between and involving people like federer and nadal and djokovic and serena is far above and beyond what first take provides.....sad these people actually think espn provides something better at that time....should cover the whole day from paris, a terrific sporting and cultural event unlike manufactured outrage/gabfest from bristol which espn now specializes in
