Unreasonable Tyrant Chip Kelly Strips Eagles of Taco Tuesday and Fast Food Friday

There’s a new sheriff in Philadelphia, and he plays by his own rules.

Jeannine Edwards reported from Eagles camp on SportsCenter this morning, highlighting the extent to which new head coach Chip Kelly has autocratically encroached on his players’ inalienable rights.

“Everything in the cafeteria has been re-made, and everyone in the organization from upper management to the staffers to the players are commenting on it,” Edwards said. “You go in the cafeteria and you see nothing but healthy food choices because Chip Kelly believes elite athletes need optimal nutrition.”

Unbelievable.

And it gets worse.

“Gone are things like Taco Tuesdays and Fast Food Fridays, which the players are not too happy about,” Edwards continued. “Pizza, chicken wings, fried foods — and even red meat — are off the menu. [Kelly wants] nothing but organic hormone- and antibiotic-free lean meats.”

Andy Reid knew how to train winners: cheeseburgers for everybody. That’s optimal nutrition; Taco Tuesdays and Fast Food Fridays were the lifeblood of the organization, and everybody knew it. How are the Eagles supposed to compete in these new conditions? No red meat?! Did the players lose a war?

Update: Andy Reid will bring at least part of his vitally important training regimen with him to Kansas City:

Wow very interesting. It's definitely true that nutrition for an athlete is key because of what they have to do, but maybe he is taking it a bit too far? Red meats have protein which helps athletes have energy so...

he didn't strip the food to make the athletes healthier or get them in better shape, they are already world class athletes. This move is clearly to teach a group of "grown men" the art of discipline and to get their minds in the right place which is something Andy Reid could never funnel down to any player in the organization. take a look at the nfl's list of most hated coaches and notice one trend among them (belicheck, coughlin, tomlin, harbough to name recent winners). Championships. Then look at the most beloved (Andy Reid). Even grown men need a leader not a friend. Chip Kelly may not get the eagles to win 10 games in 2014 but he will command respect and get the most out of his personnel.

I am sure that all his players will  eat the healthy food and smile a knowing smile at the coach.  Does he forget that he is dealing with grown men with big paychecks and nice cars to drive to steak houses, bars, grocery stores?  Coach thinks he has a bunch of broke college boys he can keep under control, that is pretty laughable. The only thing he will not have to adjust to is hiding failed drug reports.. he had plenty of practice at Oregon.

How dare he make athletes eat like well athletes.

Sounds like a  great idea.  The Eagles were 4-12 in 2012, so change is clearly needed.  If the Eagles go 10-6 in 2013, a possibility, how many other teams will follow Kelly's lead?  Practically all of them, that's how many.  It's only a bad idea unless it works, which it probably will.  Kelly is set for a long career in the NFL, and will likely never coach another game at the college level.  (Except when he faces the Cowboys.  They are essentially a college team).

Good thing he didn't stop Hooker Thursdays. What would the players do without their weekly hookups?

@ChaseWalsh3 You guys and your "count on it" predictions, as if those three little words make your post anything more than a guess.  Oh, and if Chip Kelly somehow proves your expertise wrong and finds success in the NFL, I don't suppose that you will show up on some article about him and write you were wrong.

BS -- He is a players' coach and the Eagles players and management will love him and his diet.  Andy Reid is the perfect example for the health beneifits of Taco Tuesday and Fast Food Friday.
