Shane Battier Inbounded The Ball Off Paul Pierce’s Back Last Night (Again)
Won't get fooled again? Not if you're the Celtics captain
The Heat beat the Celtics last night in Boston for their 23rd consecutive win. It was a gutting loss for Boston in what’s blossomed into the league’s most heated rivalry, not least because of how it ended.
Miami led 105-103 and needed to inbound the ball to run out the remaining two seconds. That’s when Shane Battier bounced the ball of Paul Pierce’s back, rushed to the corner and tossed the ball toward the basket. Final buzzer. Game over.
If it looked familiar, there’s a reason: Battier pulled the same move in a game last April on a play that resulted in a score.
That’s twice in 11 months that Battier has inbounded the ball of Pierce’s back. Something tell us the longtime Celtic won’t be as casual about facing away from the inbounder the next time these teams meet on Apr. 12 in Miami.
