Oscar Pistorius appears on the front of this week’s Time magazine.
The cover story by Alex Perry, the magazine’s African bureau chief, addresses the Pistorius saga within the broader context of South Africa’s culture of violence and complex history of race relations and inequality.
The dramatic full-length photo of Pistorius was shot by Pieter Hugo and first used in The New York Times last year. It’s accompanied by the headline: Man Superman Gunman.
Time, which has the world’s largest circulation for a weekly news magazine — with a worldwide readership of 25 million, including 20 million in the U.S. — is known for its striking and sometimes controversial covers. The issue happens to mark the magazine’s 90th birthday.
Pistorius is currently on bail for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in Pretoria, South Africa.
